The legendary Raúl has officially joined FC Schalke 04 of the German Bundesliga after being officially presented on Tuesday evening. The former Madrid captain announced that his goal is to win trophies at the Gelsenkirchen side, and if that means that he must score in the Champions League and become sole possessor of the record for most goals in European competition, all the better. Having never played outside of Spain before, Raúl will begin learning German to better befriend his teammates. Helping in this process will be former Madrid teammate Christof Metzelder, who joined Schalke earlier this summer.
Real Madrid, however, will be a hemisphere away from their iconic former leader. The team left today for California, where they will play two preseason matches. The first against Club America at Candlestick Park (San Francisco) on August 4th, and the second against the LA Galaxy at The Rose Bowl (Pasadena) on August 7th. From there the team will go to Germany to continue the preseason against 2010 Champions League runner-up Bayern Munich.
